The story centers on a washed-up tennis pro named Peter Colt (played by Paul Bettany), an English professional Tennis Player in his thirties whose ranking has slipped from 11th to 119th in the world, considers he never really had to fight for anything as his wealthy but not close family easily put him through studies and allowed him to pursue his Tennis ambitions and an up-and-coming tennis star named Lizzie Bradbury (played by Kirsten Dunst)  the American rising star of female tennis during the Wimbledon Championships.

I've been wanting to see this movie since I saw it's preview in one of my daughter's DVD collection, lucky enough it was shown at @2ndavenue during one of those days when you think there's simply nothing good showing on TV.

I love it ! From start to finish. It was simple, it was romantic, & it was realistic. It's all about a young girl who saw this guy long time ago when she was watching a tennis game & just fell in love with him. So when she was finally all grown up . .  she didn't hesitate! There were bumps & bruises along the way of the relationship but hey what relationship doesn't. All that matters is the "happy ending" where after winning the game he retires from tennis. He and Lizzie get married, and with his support, Lizzie goes on to win the U.S. Open and Wimbledon twice, ultimately achieving her dreams. In the last scene, Peter is with their youngest child, a boy, watching Lizzie and their eldest child, a girl, playing tennis together on a neighborhood court in New York City SIGH SIGH SIGH

The film is dedicated to Mark McCormack, who died on 16 May 2003 after suffering cardiac arrest four months earlier.

The story started with a very serious note, then it progressed to sad. Kate’s only sister who was coming to visit with her 9 year old daughter Zoe had a car accident, her sister died. How Horrible !!! Being it that there’s only the 2 of them, she left her daughter in her care.

Kate Armstrong is a Head Chef in a 1st class restaurant, her house was beige, no messages on her answering machine . . . everyday, if a customer doesn’t like her dish – it’s unacceptable, cause her dish is cooked perfectly well, her boss wants her to go on therapy, I wonder why? Her hobby is reading recipe books.

Zoe had to start life in a new city, with a aunt she barely knows, cooks food that’s not at all “edible”.

So while Kate is away for a week to mourn her sister’s passing, her boss Patricia hires Nicolas Palmer an Italian sous chef. He is everything Kate isn’t, he’s happy, carefree & unpredictable. He doesn’t run the kitchen like Hitler, ooops Kate.

No Reservation , a story about being perfect, having a perfect life, a perfect job, the pains of losing somebody you love & starting all over again … but not perfectly this time. It’s a delicious movie ! Full of Hope ! And it's knowing what really matters, a regular perfect life, or a happy unpredictable one. Take the Risk ! Have a Leap of Faith ! It might make you happy :)

Were you a cheer leader ? Or a nerd ? Or were you just invisible.

High School, everybody goes through this. It could be a dream or a nightmare. If you’re Ms Popular - pretty, smart, dated the jock, then life is just peachy. The Nerds on the other hand is exempt from the dilemma of achieving passing grades. So all that’s left is “Invisible” you & me. That would be everybody else who needs to study real hard to pass, who has a hard time finding a date for prom night, and who graduates unnoticed.

This movie speaks of the invisible who turned out great, VP for marketing to be exact. Vis a Vis the Cheer Leader in contrast winds up living a pretty ordinary life. I guess having a hard time in high school can push you to want more, to do more. It may seem so terrible at the time but in the end you reap the rewards of your efforts, thus making you no longer invisible !

BUT what if the Bully who made life hell for you & pushed you to do so great so that you'd forget all the tears and humiliation of high school is marrying your brother ? Homecoming is like a nightmare, it's like high school all over again, and the painful part is everybody adores her.STOP !!! Don't you people know who she is ! She ruined my life ! or did she ?

You Again (2010) - IMDb was a funny & touchy movie we all could relate to. And it has a happy ending we all could wish for.

SEASON OF THE WITCH starring Nicholas Cage, a nice movie all in all, kept me off my seat. There was a constant struggle in my mind on whether the Girl was a witch or not all thru out the movie.

Movies like this fuels my curiosity, it brings about questions. Is there really such a thing as a witch? Do magic spells work? There are a lot of informative readings about this subject matter, most of them boring. Then I came across a website for magic spells. Curious ! They have everything from love potion to" make you rich" stuff. Well I’ve had my share of horror movies telling me that curiosity kills the cat ( LOL).

How many stories has it been where the central character risks the possibility of eminent demise attempting to defeat evil creatures doing what they are NOT supposed to do. It’s like having to tell them “I told you so” . And don't get me started on "personal gain" spells. Nope, not me, I am not daring enough to try one of these spells no matter how intrigued I may be. Call me chicken but better safe than sorry.

HISTORICAL FACTS :

This is a painting on the on the outer wall of Rila Monastery church, Bulgaria. It's a 19th century mural painting. Inscriptions states Magicians and healers are not servants of the devil in truth like anyone witches have a choice between good and evil those who call themselves witches are healers but only if they are good God has given them a gift to help people if they want or need help on the other hand there are evil witches they do deify god and worship the devil. But there are hardly any evil witches. Those who heal are servants of God, but those who aren't are servants of the devil.

Just finished watching “No Other Woman”, a well celebrated local film. This movie was a hit ! You’d think that it’s the usual “Mistress” movie where everybody ends up hating the mistress & wish her dead. To my amazement it’s not. On the contrary, I “feel” for the mistress, but wait ! I don’t even think she was one.

The story started with a regular married couple having their marital woes due to domestic disturbance from the in-laws. Here all the characters are well off, so there’s no Heaven & Earth Love Thing. The domestic disturbance was also very mild,no real threatening events,The only conflict was that the wife’s father think that the husband is not good enough for her. Boring!

Then comes the heiress. Husband gets a jackpot busines deal due to an attraction with the hotel magnate’s only daughter. A typical “what I want I get” kind a girl. It was all her idea, no strings attached, just having fun. In fact she even told the husband to never dare fall in love with her. Karma ! As the story progress, she ends up falling crazy in love with the husband. Wife finds out, acts all confrontational (not to mention hysterical). So typically everybody would want the husband & wife to reunite right ? Right. So husband dumps the heiress, heiress chases the husband, husband gets to a car accident. Husband wakes up in the hospital, reunites with the wife. The End. Happy ending ? Not really. Although the heiress was the antagonist, I feel that she was very much a victim here. She was just fooling around, doing her usual scheme. But the husband made her feel special, and we women are a sucker for this. No matter how beautiful, wealthy & successful we are. There’s really a truth to the saying- little things means a lot. He made her fall in love with him ! The monster !

In my honest opinion, the wife & heiress should have left the husband & went on with their lives. They both deserve better. So simply put, I don’t like how the story ended, and my favorite character is the Heiress. But that’s me LOL

The story’s setting was wonderful, the resort was picturesque. The houses were delightful. The clothes hmmm not bad for the wife, stunning for the heiress. And lastly, the tête-à-tête were just perfect. They were candid yet significant.

Overall, the ratings were right! It was a great movie! A collector’s item!

The Amazing Spiderman - Reboot !

My family & I would like to thank One Hyundai Club for our blocked viewing of The Amazing Spiderman at Ultra Cinema in Eastwood, Libis.

I love it ! I am not really a Spiderman fan ... until now. I just didn't feel any connection with Tobey Maguire. But with the new Spiderman Andrew Garfield, I was convinced !

The Amazing Spider-Man is a American superhero film directed by Marc Webb, based on the Marvel Comics character Spider-Man. It is a reboot of the Spider-Man film franchise, portraying the character's origin story and his development into a superhero while still a high school student.

The Brothers Grimm

Before the new TV series "GRIMM" at Universal Channel started, I got hold of the movie.

The Brothers Grimm is a 2005 adventurefantasy film directed by Terry Gilliam. The film stars Matt Damon and Heath Ledger in an exaggerated and fictitious portrait of the Brothers Grimm as traveling con-artists in French-occupied Germany during the late 18th century. However, the brothers eventually encounter a genuine fairy tale curse which requires real courage instead of their usual bogus exorcisms.

Then it got me wondering, was this really how the world saw the brothers? So start my research. Jacob (January 4, 1785 – September 20, 1863) and Wilhelm Grimm (February 24, 1786 – December 16, 1859), were German academics, linguists, cultural researchers, and authors who together collected folklore. They are among the most well-known storytellers of European folk tales.

So they used the real names of the brothers for the movie ! Curious ! Over all it was a good movie, it has bits & pieces of history. Something about the French, the Germans & the Fairy Tales.

The Perfect Catch

By its title I already had a notion that it’s a sports associated movie. Since nothing good is showing I stuck it out and didn’t change channel. Baseball? Red Sox? I’m not really a baseball aficionado so it doesn’t ring any bells. Then I saw Drew Barrymore, “hey” I told myself “this could be a nice movie”. I loved her 51st dates and wedding singer. She kicked butt in Charlie’s Angel, and who could ever forget how adorable she was in E.T., or how powerful she was in fire starter. Actually, her only movie I really wasn’t crazy about was the one with Del Torro. So let’s get it on.

Fever Pitch, which was released as The Perfect Catch outside of the United States and Canada, is a 2005 is a romantic comedy. It is a remake of a 1997 British film. Both films are based on a book by Nick Hornby. While both the book and the original 1997 film are about soccer, this version is about baseball. This film features the dramatic or unexpected sporting victory of the Boston Red Sox's 2004 World Series.

It’s a love story most of us can relay to. Remember falling in love with that guy who loves “sports”. Well this movie is all about that. It’s about how we girls try to learn and understand the game so that we can “connect” with the man in our life. How we would go and watch, cheer our lungs out, celebrate and mourn these games. How we try to empathize with our guys. Then comes the conflict in our story. It’s when you lose yourself in trying to complement the one you love, and you hate it. Separation subsequently follows and hearts get broken.

The conclusion of this film was rather spectacular with Drew Barrymore running across the baseball field being chased by security men in the middle of a game just to stop her beau from selling all his seats of the Red Sox games for $125,000. She wouldn’t have him give up something he loved for 23 years just because of her, talk about Selfless Love! Well he on the other hand would give everything up for her – a stalemate. All in all it was a nice movie cause it ended with a compromise from both parties, and they all lived happily ever after with the Red Sox winning despite being the underdog for so-so time.
