ALONE

It’S a cool Saturday morning, Benz still sleeping soundly, Ben my hubby is off to work, Mom too. Perfect !!! This is the moment I have been waiting for to enjoy a horror movie ! 

My baby brother randy lent me a 24 in 1 DVD of Asian Horror Movies, Asian meaning horror flicks from Japan, Korea, Thailand and the likes. I steadily chose the 1^st movie on the disc,ALONE. Without knowing what it’s all about, I bravely embark on my horror indulging morning. 

It’s been years since I had a chance like this, remember RING ? Or THE GRUDGE ? I never saw those movies, ok ok I admit, I didn’t have the nerve to watch them LOL. Up to present time 2013 that those movies are already considered ancient, I still haven’t seen them. I saw the American version of The Ring once or twice as it was aired over cable tv, it was creepy.

On occasions, while am waiting for my daughter Benz to get off from school, I would enjoy an occasional YOU TUBE moment of checking out what’s the latest horror movies to see. It would usually be “what’s the Top 10 best horror movies”. Once, I chanced upon a list of horror short stories titled 13 Asian Horror Stories some of them were goose bumps eerie, while others were spine-chilling scary, I remember the one that got me the most was a short story of somebody knocking & knocking on the front door, the figure was a woman bathed in blood. What really crept me out was when the young girl saw her thru the glass window ON TOP of the door !

Gave me nightmares ! It was disturbing ! Hence the reason why I don’t watch horror movies. But don’t get me wrong, I had my fair share when I was younger, all Nightmare on elm st, Friday the 13 ^th, Psycho stuff. I stopped when I got married, 17 years ago. My husband is the 3^rd eye type, not the Bruce Willis 6 sense movie “I see dead people” but more of a lots of experience with the supernatural stuff type. We live in their ancestral home that used to be near mango orchards & rice fields, but that my friend is for another day to tell stories about :)

Back to ALONE, the dialogue was Thai, the subtitle sucks so I have to make do with simple common sense regarding the conversations. Hey, 1^st movie after ages, I’m Excited !

The story is about conjoined twins separated due to the untimely death of one of them. Many years later the surviving twin comes home cause their mother is dying. They are well off, so SHE had a good life, she’s beautiful, talented, smart & has a very loving fiancée. But then their arrival to their childhood home brought GHOSTS, her twin is haunting her, she wants REVENGE ! The story is simple yet it was exciting all thru out. I didn’t guess the ending. Special effects were few. All in all ALONE was a good horror movie, nothing gory, no monsters. So for all of you starting up on horror movies, this is a good watch. Let’s just level up to more terrifying watch along the way :)

911 what's your emergency ?

This movie is no joke, it gave our mom the jippers causing her BP to rise. It even made her worry for us. Me & my sister both drive ourselves to “point A to everywhere”, to work, to the mall, to the supermarket. In other words were self sufficient. This movie’s danger started from that point, as a girls walks herself to her car in a mall’s carpark.

Personally, I like this movie. It’s a 911 centered movie. Watching it would give you the feel of how the people taking the 911 calls feel. How they could also suffer from other people’s misfortune, Or how they could blame themselves for failing to save them. In the end, it’s the same 911 person who saves the day HOORAY !!! GO GIRL !!! Haley Berry is so perfect for the role. As my sister put it, she couldn’t picture a blonde doing what she did LOL or a red head of for that matter.

The Call, will show us how to be extra careful when you’re on a public carpark, what to do in case you were kidnapped & placed inside the trunk of a car & so many more. In short it shows us that even if you are overpowered and scared, you can still fight back, fight for your life.

Overall, this is a must see movies especially for ladies of all ages. Watch it now.

DARK SKIES

This Movie reminds me so much of THE SIGNS featuring Mel Gibson, it's scary minus the gory, bloody, horrendous looking creatures involved in decapitation & the likes. The 1st baffling occurrence was a puzzle, is the intruder a monster? But then the 2^nd occurrence was a give-away that it’s an alien! Immediately, the conclusion would be ABDUCTION, they are going to abduct the youngest member of the family, Sammy.

So the movie goes that every night, barking of dogs wakes the mom, Lacy Barrett up. 1^st night she discovers partially eaten food all over the kitchen floor. On the 2^nd night, she found canned and packaged foods stacked up in towers all over the kitchen projecting a strange sign on the ceiling. By the 3^rd night – all their family pictures were gone! All frames in tack. Daniel & Lacy called the police, sadly they insist that it’s one of the kids doing it, a certain sleep eating disorder at first, then just plain “looking for parents attention” conclusion. Daniel has been out of work for at least three months, which has put a lot of strain on their family.

Then one night Lacy heard Sammy talking, thinking that the boys were still awake, she went in. You see at night Josh and Sammy communicate with each other from their bedrooms via walkie-talkie. Jesse  reads Sammy scary stories about The Sandman to distracts him from their parents' fighting. Upon walkin she witnesses a figure standing over sammy’s bed. But when she turns on the light, the room is empty, and Sammy was gone ! Only his pajamas were left lying on the bed! CREEPIEST SCENE! 

Since the police is still unwilling to help, the father Daniel turned to re-installing their alarm system. When night came, the alarm went off, all 8 points of intrusion triggered but nobody was found, all doors & windows locked, his next mode of action, installing security cameras. This gave him a glimpse of the “GRAY”, each standing over Lacy, Josh & Sammy as they slept, there’s 3 of them !

In the end, the whole family each had their share of episodes, the number of strange events begins to increase in frequency and danger, affecting family members personally. They each go into trances and are unable to account for their time. Then there’s the hundreds of birds crashing into the house, as if something was drawing the birds to their home. Besides  being the center of oddity, Friends & neighbors thinks that they are abusing the kids due to the bruises and marks on the boys. 

Lacy tried to look for answers, she searched online and finds articles on aliens. She found pictures other children have drawn that are very similar to the ones Sammy has drawn of a child and three grey figures holding hands beside a house. At 1^st Daniel dismisses the idea, but after seeing the grey figures in the security cameras he now believes Lacy’s alien theory, and seek help from a specialist, Edwin Pollard (J. K. Simmons), who calls the beings "The Grays".

Pollard warns the Barrett’s that they should be hyper-protective of their child, who has been "chosen" and that they must work together in order to save their son. Then maybe the aliens will move on to another family.

Dark Skies had its twist & turns making it not your usual alien movie. It was a bit slow but it’s ok. Overall it’s a good watch. I won’t give you the ending so not to ruin the fun, you have to watch it to know LOL
